We build our lessons on three pillars
1) Technique (rudiments and learning the essential foundational building blocks needed to play with skill and musicality)
2) Creativity. We love our pupils to explore their own musical creativity within the context of songs and rhythm, this includes learning essential fills/phrases and learning key rhythms from the classic drummers and guitarists of the past.
3) Reading, sight reading and reading of musical notation is a crucial skill for progress and opens up a world of opportunity to play with ensembles. We like to start our young musicians with reading challenges which will lead onto taking their graded exams (grade 1-8)
OUR tuition
Alongside teaching pupils the graded syllabuses we also guide with exam entry and digital filiming/submission. We speaclise in grades 1-8 in the following exam boards.

We offer one to one & group lessons, ranging from 30mins, 45mins and 60mins. We tailor each time slot to the ability of the pupil to maximise learning and enjoyment.
Dan offers remote lessons and can bring his teaching kit to learn on, so you don't need to purchase any gear of your own straightaway!

We have teaching kits we bring to pupils homes (to start you off). We can then recommend practice gear to purchase.

Dan Adcock started Southern Drum School in 2015 with the soul vision of creating a community of enthusiastic and passionate young musicians. Dan graduated from the Academy Of Contemporary Music (ACM) with a BMus degree and started his professional journey. Dan has decades of Drumming experience ranging from Swing Jazz to Pop and has played many venues ranging from Hammersmith Apollo all the way to tours of Germany and drumming on Britain's Got Talent.
Outside running a very busy and ever growing teaching brand Dan is a composer/producer currently working in the TV/Film industry, gaining many placements over the last 5 years for his original music on: BBC, ITV, ESPN, Channel 4, Fox, Fortnite, Epic Games, MTV, Netflix, Amazon, Hulu to name a few. Dan currently works alongside BMG production music/Universal Music.
At Southern Drum School Dans aim is to inspire and nurture young talent and give every pupil an opportunity to find what they love about music and teach them about the industry behind it also.
